Project Details:
Santo André, concerned with the safety of its more than 700 thousand citizens, within the Sustainable Urban Mobility Program, contracted the Plan for Safe and Inclusive Mobility – PMSI of Santo André, which was developed by the Consortium POLO/TIS/CERTARE/CONCREMAT/ANTON.
With a focus on road safety and inclusion, the elaboration of this plan had popular participation through inclusion meetings and public hearings seeking to have the vision of different audiences such as women, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, reduced mobility, cyclists, carters, among other groups that move around the city.
Aligned with the 2nd Decade of Action for Road Safety and the National Plan for the Reduction of Deaths and Injuries in Traffic (PNATRANS), the PMSI brought the Vision Zero approach, considering that no death is acceptable in traffic. To do this, it is necessary to design a safe mobility system with policies that put human life as a priority. The diagnosis of the municipality included a survey by means of an instrumentalized vehicle, inspections and analysis of the historical series of road accidents, pointing out the main critical points. In addition, accessibility was also a crucial issue in the preparation of this plan, which included a draft sidewalk law and a new Manual of Safe and Accessible Sidewalks that should be implemented soon in the municipality.
Its evidence-based Action Plan aims to save more than 600 lives in traffic by 2045, which will save more than R$ 900 million in fatal claims for Santo André.
